Assistive Technology Innovation Center

Welcome to the Assistive Technology Innovation Center, also known as the ATIC.

As part of the San Francisco Unified School District, our mission is to make sure all our kids with disabilities have access to the technology they need to access their education.

The ATIC welcomes SFUSD staff, students, and families to explore assistive technology (AT) devices, create classroom materials or visuals, and connect with other SFUSD-related service providers.

What is Assistive Technology (AT)?

Assistive Technology (AT) is an umbrella term that encompasses any item, piece of equipment, software program, or product system that is used to increase, maintain, or improve the functional capabilities of an individual with a disability. AT can be no-tech, mid-tech, or high-tech devices.

Please contact for any assistive technology (AT) questions.

What is Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC)?

Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) is a type of assistive technology that includes all forms of communication other than verbal speech and American Sign Language (ASL). This includes communication boards, gestures, facial expressions, eye gaze, and/or speech-generating devices.
